Hickory is native to North America and is the heaviest of American hardwoods. Hickory sapwood is white to cream in color, its heartwood is tan or reddish. There are usually marked differences in color between spring wood and summer wood. Hickory has a closed grain with moderate definition and is fairly rough-textured.
